Death Valley Eroded Hills and Smoke Trees

Another favorite painting to start your new year. After making a quick color study of this scene across from the campground, the wind came up. The rest of the story is in my memoir. Death Valley is another one of God’s great wonders on earth. I hope you have a chance to drive that barren landscape and see the bones of the earth. Try to go in the early springtime. Maybe you will catch the desert in bloom. May your New Year be full of the wonders of creation.

Sabbatical painting: A light breeze kicks up the morning the crew starts out for Titus Canyon. Since we drove that Canyon last week, I opt for a solitary day in camp. My stroll around the campground is cut short by small gusts of wind that scatter sand across the path. Back in the trailer I close windows. Before long, dust blows everywhere, and I can’t see past the smoke trees across the way…
