Death Valley Eroded Hills and Smoke Trees

Another favorite painting to start your New Year. After sketching a quick color study of this campground scene, a wind came up. The rest of the story is in my memoir, The Road to Beaver Park. Death Valley is another of God’s wonders on this planet. I hope you get a chance to visit this barren landscape, the bones of the earth. See for yourself the flow patterns, and the colors of rock and soil. Marvel at the sweep of desert vistas. Try to go in the early springtime. You might catch the desert in bloom, another wonder.

Sabbatical painting: A light breeze kicks up the morning the crew starts out for Titus Canyon. Since we drove that Canyon last week, I opt for a solitary day in camp. My stroll around the campground is cut short by small gusts of wind that scatter sand across the path. Back in the trailer I close windows. Before long, dust blows everywhere, and I can’t see past the smoke trees across the way…
